My Interview with Papa Roach

If my memory serves me correctly the last time I saw Papa Roach was 2001, when they were playing with Hed(pe) at the greatly missed London Astoria.
On Monday I headed to Brixton Academy a few hours before their penultimate UK show of their run with Stone Sour.

Interview with Tigs for Motel Rocks

My Full Interview........

How would you describe your personal style?
Glam grunge, 90’s slacker chic.

Who are your style icons?
It depends on the day but Ashley from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air when she was in her hot teenage phase, Lauren Bacall, 90’s Kate moss and 70’s rockstar wives.

You have said that looking at the artwork of your previous album, you are not as happy with it now. Does the same go for previous fashion choices in promo’s or videos?
Yes of course, it is human nature to change and progress so you will always look back from time to time and think....oh bollocks.

In the video for Hurricane you have hit one of Motel Rocks favourite trends by wearing an embellished green crop top. How much input do you have in terms of styling? Has anyone ever attempted to style you in a way you’ve really disliked?
We have total control over what we where and how we look. On a shoot you work with a stylist who brings a bunch of stuff and then you pick out what you like. You've already had a conversation before the event, about what you'd like to wear, so in that sense it is a joint effort. Of course occasionally you'll work with someone new who doesn't really get who are you are, and they'll suggest something you hate. In that instance you just have to be strong with them, and say no.

Do you change you update style frequently? What inspires your style...the music scene, street style, magazines, films etc?
I don't consciously change my style but it kind of subconsciously overhauls itself from time to time. I don't have a long attention span so I guess that runs through everything in my life. It's most obvious with my hair I suppose. I change that a lot because I just get bored. Everything around us is inspirational, it informs the lyrics I write and the way I dress.

Do you tell band mates if you are not into what they are wearing?
Yes. It doesn't happen often though, James dresses very well.

I believe you now have a fellow female on tour with you. How has that changed the dynamic? Have you found there are girly things you have been discussing that you weren’t able to before?
The music scene, being in a touring band, is a very male environment. From crew to bands to venue staff, I always found myself with men, and that has been fine, but when we were out on the road I did really miss female company. Having another girl around has taken all the loneliness out of touring for me. It's pretty awesome.

As an artist how do you strike to balance of having style but not letting it overshadow the music?
I don't wear anything outrageous because that's not the way like to dress. And I would never want my style to be the first thing people knew me for. It should be about the songs.

Trends you wish would disappear or reappear?
Disappear - boot-cuts. Who the fuck still wears these?! People in West London. Reappear - Fondue. I missed it the first time round and it sounds awesome. I love cheese.

What are your beauty/style secrets for tour living?
Cheap underwear that you throw out after wearing. Not very environmentally friendly I'm afraid. Lots of face-masks. If we have a late start one morning, I'll do a little pamper at the hotel, makes me feel like I'm at home.

Your current favourite performance look?
Just gone back to sequined knickers and a tiny crop top.

What Motel Rocks items would find themselves on your wish-list?
Razzle dazzle sequined shorts. I'd wear them on stage.

What do you hope Chew Lips will achieve in the coming year?
A critically acclaimed 2nd album.

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES SECRET SANTA OUT 16 DECEMBER

Spreading joy via music, and a cracking display of Christmas jumpers, Kids in Glass Houses 'Secret Santa's bell ridden melody manages to rouse festive spirit from even scrooges like myself. One listen and this jovial track will be firmly stuck in your noggin for..... well, hopefully the entire Xmas holiday!

So get your pals round, the mulled wine cooking and share those secretive gifts to this soundtrack courtesy of these Welsh wonders....

Tickets to their annual Christmas party show at the Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff on the 20th have already sold, but they have added an extra show on the 22nd of December so buy now to ensure you get to witness their festive treat live.

"While we were demo-ing for our next album, Iain emailed over this idea that he'd "quickly" knocked together at home for a bit of fun. We've always talked about doing a Christmas track for a laugh and in the vein of all those classics and this song has every bell, glock and Christmas cliche we could muster.

One morning I was really hungover and pressed record on my laptop and the words and melody fell out in one take. It basically describes the slightly more "adult" side of the festive season - the office parties and the like. It's all very tongue in cheek and camp, but I think we did the tradition some justice!

It's a bit Slade, a bit Wizard, a bit Mariah, and the alcohol in my system was a bit Shane MacGowan. I'm actually really proud of it!" - Aled

The Launch of the Love Hate Social Club

On the 16th of November my crew and I headed to London for the launch of The LoveHate London Social Club, an exciting joint venture between long time friends; renowned recording artist, broadcaster, and all round cool dude Huey Morgan and Ami James, the world famous tattoo artist and creative force and face of LoveHate Tattoo Studios, as featured on the hit TV show Miami Ink.

Based within the ever pumping heart of Notting Hill, this new space meets the demands of high end clientele, celebrities and global fans that will undoubtedly flock to this unique tattoo parlour. A space where art, music, dynamic creativity and innovation come together in this inspiring studio and ‘social club’ on the streets of London.  Ami leads the artistic teams and has handpicked the best talent from all over the world to provide the stellar ink work. Their elite roster of resident and guest artists bring an extraordinary amount of talent to the table, showcasing some of the best female and male ink artists in the world.

LoveHate London will be modelled on the highly successful ‘LoveHate Wooster Street Social Clubbased in the heart of Soho NYC. LoveHate London will be taking this all-encompassing philosophy and developing it one step further with the addition of music and entertainment. Huey Morgan will curate musical entertainment to an eclectic crowd which will no doubt be as varied as his own musical taste, showcased by his various records and radio shows.
We'd  planned to interview Huey and Ami on the night of the launch, but when we arrived half hour before the scheduled start time, the place was already completely rammed. The event had somehow gone viral and spurred Tattoo and Huey/Ami fans to travel great distances in the hope to be meet and get inked on the launch night. Apparently the team had been working non stop since the morning, meaning tha much of the planned press and party planning had to go out of the window. A positive sign of things to come though...

With the fantastic interior, courtesy of Huey's wife who clearly has a great eye for design, the second to none artistic talent , the great location, unique ethos, with the added bonus of alt beauties like El Wood on reception, there is no doubting it will be one of London's hottest creative destinations.

Electrifying Party Tresses

When I was at school my parents were very rigid when it came to make up and uniform. Apart from the concealer I'd borrow (steal) from my mums bathroom cabinet to cover my ever increasing breakouts, I would have to abide by the no visible make up rule. I was also not allowed to dye my hair even though my friends were either getting their first streaky blonde highlights or punky colours from camden market. What my parents did allow was the use of hair mascaras that I could wear on the weekend with my rock t-shirts and skate trousers, that would wash out in preparation for school on the Monday.

Although they worked at delivering the bright colours I was looking to streak into my untouched blond mane, they gave the hair a horribly sticky texture. If had curled or crimped (yes crimping was in ok!) my hair the sections that had the wand through would end up straight and independent from the rest.

I was interested to see how hair mascara has developed since my teens, and whether they could tempt me away from my Kevin Murphy Colour Bugs.

First of all at a ridiculously affordable £1.25 they are already winning me over. I opted for the pink and purple hues so I can hope to mimic My little Pony glory.

When applying it to the hair I noticed that the strands were looking lank and damp.. just how I remembered.  Giving it a few minutes to dry though, the original untouched texture of my hair was pretty much restored, albeit with a slight glittery tinge thanks to the party friendly colours.

I attempted to create a graduated dip dye effect my combining the two colours. Although it wasn't a complete disaster, the chalky nature of the colour bugs make it easier to blend and are therefore better suited to create the effect.

If you want to give it a go though ensure you wipe the wand on the side of the tube before applying to hair or you will find out get an uneven colour distribution, which is hard to rectify without washing it out completely.

In conclusion, these mascara's are probably best suited to those wanting to create fine streaks into the hair, or for those wantintg to add a dash of popping colour to their fringe for the party season -  the size makes them perfect to pop in those party clutches if you want to share the joy with fellow revelers!

Have you fallen for Bo?

It is around this time of year our heads our pummeled with the sound of overly jolly, bell ridden, festive folly. This dreamy track by the ethereal beauty Bo Bruce may prove to be the perfect antidote.
Some of you will already know the haunting voice and the heartbreaking doe eyes, but for those that haven't already forged an opinion, I would be interested to know what you think? Please feel free to comment!

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?

I have always been a scrooge about Christmas. For numerous reason's this is the first Christmas in donkeys that I have been excited for. But for those who are still finding it hard to muster Christmas spirit, I challenge you not to feel a little festive after a visit to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, even if it you just use it as an excuse to indulge in the glorious array of foodie delights...

The most overpriced marzipan in the whole of Hyde Park...

Would you?

FYI - you will never see me here...

Overwhelmed by all the food and pretty lights

This laughing fake dude really freaked me out..

Do I really need to convince you that you need to visit?

Absolute stilton face

Any excuse to use the HTC Panorama function

Always making friends..
